One of the things that I learned from Randy Schilling (CEO of Quilogy) was the statement "Eat Like a Bird, Poop Like An Elephant". This comes from Guy Kawasaki.
And whenever I talk to someone about adopting that in my consulting life, the person looks at me like I'm mentally challenged. However, I apply it in this way: I learn something that is important, and then find different ways to talk about it (blog, article, book, webcast, client conversations, etc). It's a way to evangelize and markets me so that I can get to a point of creating revenue via consulting.
This has recently been validated again by Jeff Sundquist in a blog entry about his looking for Developer Evangelist in Redmond.
