Quck List of Windows Mobile enhancements

Window Mobile Version 5.0 has a bunch of goodies included.  Here is a quick list that just scrapes the surface:

  • PowerPoint Mobile
  • Actually, all of the Office products have been renamed from "Pocket XXXX" to "XXXX Mobile".  For example, "Word Mobile" and "Excel Mobile".  Both of which have had enhancements to close the gap to desktop equivalancy.
  • Excel Mobile has better chart support including creating charts on the device
  • Improved UI for Outlook Mobile
  • Individual ringtone per contact
  • IE Mobile - better viewing, full screen, download progress bar
  • Pocket MSN has been re-designed
  • ActiveSync 4.0
  • PPC now has softkeys officially
  • Pictures & Video Viewer, and Picture Picker API
  • Photo and Video Capture API
  • GPS API
  • New State Notification API - see the upcoming article from me and Derek on that.  This is really a nice design.
  • A managed library that taps into some of the API's.  Example - see previous point.
  • SmartPhone enhancements are in this release as well.
  • OEM annoucements on the way.  Looks like Dell has already announced plans.   So, c'mon T-Mobile - upgrade my PPC Phone!
